I am an Assistant Research Professor of Sociology at Johns Hopkins University. My research is at the intersection of race, space, and housing. I teach courses on topics including Housing and Homelessness, Race and Ethnicity, Research Methods, Immigration, and Urban Sociology.
My book Collateral Damages: Landlords and the Urban Housing Crisis examines the supply side of housing. It follows the small-and mid-sized landlords who house lower- and moderate-income tenants, and demonstrates how the laws which are meant to regulate landlords and protect tenants fall short and produce unintended, negative consequences for renters, and particular, marginalized renters of color.
